Favorite Photos: A Mother's Love

A Tender Moment

There is no love like a mother's love,
no stronger bond on earth...
like the precious bond
that comes from God
to a mother, when she gives birth.

Favorite Photos: A "Grand" Event

"I'm a Grandma!"

My husband and I with our first grandchild,
Damon Tyler Rowley

In the midst of life's chaos, we are sometimes blessed with those "golden" moments that remind us how grand love is.  I had heard other grandparents talk about how wonderful it is to have grandchildren but I would not comprehend their feelings until I had a grandchild of my own.

The experience of holding my grandson brought back a flood of memories when I became a mother for the first time- there was the joy, the love, the awesomeness of that moment when I held that tiny creation of life.  Then there was the panic, fear and wondering if I knew what to do.  Becoming a grandmother for the first time brought back the joy, the love, the awesomeness and the worries, but experience gave me confidence and by then I knew what to do- how to calm a crying baby, how to wipe a nose, change a diaper and give unconditional love.

Favorite Photos: Brotherly Love, Matthew & Nathan

My Grandsons, Matthew and Nathan

Two little sets of footprints,
Two dirty little faces,
They'll catch frogs and chase puppy dogs,
Play ball and run some races.
Unknown of yet where life will lead
Or how the story will end,
No matter what path they walk upon,
I hope they'll be best friends.
They'll share with each other the memories
Of life they lived together,
They'll give each other the gift of laughter,
To carry them through stormy weather.
One day they'll look back through the years
And will find inside their hearts,
As long as they share brotherly love,
They will never be apart.

Sentimental Stories: A Baby's Feet

Nathan's little feet, April 2009

What is it about a baby's toes that I love so much? I love to gently rub these tiny little feet and watch his toes curl when I touch them. They are so soft, so delicate. Sometimes I can't resist placing a light kiss upon the soles of his baby feet.

These tiny feet will grow quickly. Hopefully, they will take him upon a long journey through life, through many miles during his life on this earth. They will allow him to stand, a little unsteady at first, until he progressively learns that he can make them move forward.... and backwards too. They will cause him to stumble and fall a few times, perhaps causing him to acquire a few bruises here and there, but he will learn how to manuever them to perfection. These little feet will learn to walk, then run. They will spend a lot of time in forward motion, as the master of them runs to greet his parents and his friends. They will turn the wheels of a tricycle then later a bicycle then an automobile; they will climb upon ladder rings leading to slides and monkey bars, and they will leap to catch balls and frisbees.

One day, all too soon, these delicate little baby feet will grow to their full capacity, bearing the weight of a full grown man. My wish is that they will take him through a long, beautiful journey in his life.... and that one day, these precious little feet will become those of a wise and well traveled old man.

I love you, my precious grandson.

Happy New Year!

It's a brand spanking NEW YEAR, a NEW BEGINNING!

"We will open the book.  It's pages are BLANK.  We are going to put words on them ourselves.  The book is called OPPORTUNITY and its first chapter begins NEW YEARS DAY."

New Years Day is refreshing, isn't it?  It is a time to reflect upon the days of the past year and look forward to the new year with HOPE, a time to feel grateful for being here upon this earth for another year, a time to feel joyful for another opportunity to make forward progress and forget, or gracefully accept, past mistakes.

In the new year I'm looking forward to expanding my genealogy circle here.  I've been browsing or "snooping" other blogs and genealogy pages quite a bit since beginning my family history blog last month.  The information and genealogy resources available on the web these days is phenomenal!  I wish I had started a family history blog much sooner but I didn't realize until recently the surprising number of people who share their family research and resources online.  There are some wonderful blogs filled with tons of helpful information, as well as amazing stories of their own ancestral discoveries.  I have enjoyed reading post after post as I've browsed through their stories of triumphs and defeats while searching their family's roots.   I feel greatly encouraged toward making progress in my own family research :)   I also want to shout out a big "THANK YOU" to those who have put such a great effort into helping others with genealogy research!

My husband and I have enjoyed spending the New Years weekend with my daughter Crissy and her family in Tupelo, Mississippi.  We have been blessed by being in the midst of love, plentiful laughter and lots of good food!  I have enjoyed watching my grandsons Matthew and Nathan playing with their new Christmas gifts while occasionally getting into a little trouble- they are typical boys, and as such, they can become just a tad bit hostile with each other.  Nathan, the 2 year old, is constantly on the go and enjoys evoking an emotional response from his older brother.  I just smile and silently thank God that I've been there, done that and now I'm through *laughs*.  Here's a couple pics of them:

Matthew is always ready to SMILE for a pic :)

Nathan, on the other hand, doesn't like to cooperate with pics.
He and I were playing "peek-a-boo" and I snapped this photo at about the right time (pretty sly, huh?)

Today is a "first" for me.  I'm going to break family tradition.  What????!!!!! Yes, I'm going to break tradition by NOT eating our usual New Years dinner of cabbage, black-eye peas, pork and cornbread.  Mom used to encourage me, saying it was necessary to eat this traditional dinner for MONEY or FINANCIAL GAIN (green=cabbage), GOOD LUCK (black-eye peas), and PROGRESS (pork, usually ham hocks or a pork roast).    Most of the time I just shared the meal with Mom to make her happy, and besides that, I really do love a good country meal sometimes.  But- the part about the money, good luck and progress has been questioned numerous times throughout the years, lol!

Finally, I want to share the following message for the new year:

At the sound of the tolling midnight bell,
a brand new year will begin.
Let's raise our hopes in a confident toast
to the promise it ushers in.

May your battles be few, your pleasures many,
your wishes and dreams fulfilled,
May your confidence stand in the face of loss
and give you the strength to rebuild.

May peace of heart fill all your days,
may serenity grace your soul,
May tranquil moments bless your life
and keep your spirit whole.
