Andrew "Smokey" Simmons, 1922-1971, MS>LA

Andrew "Smokey" Simmons, my grand uncle, was born 12 April 1922 in Mississippi, the son of James El Simmons and Harriet Woodard.  He grew up in the rural communities of Baxterville and Pine Burr within Marion/Lamar County, Mississippi.  He worked in the timber industry from a young age then later worked in construction.  

He married first Emma Johnson on 19 August 1939 in Marion County, Mississippi.  She was the daughter of Henry and Sarah Johnson.

He married second Ava Lois "Lossie" May, the daughter of William and Tera May, on 15 August 1943 in Marion County, Mississippi.  They resided in Marion County for a while then moved to the Denham Springs/Walker area of Livingston Parish, Louisiana.  They later separated then divorced.

It is unknown if Andrew remarried after he and Lossie divorced.  He moved back to Marion County, Mississippi and was residing in Columbia at the time of his death on 15 July 1971.  He was buried in the Palmetto Cemetery, Walker, Livingston Parish, Louisiana.

iv. Douglas Andrew Simmons (1956-1973)
